APTE PARTICIPATES IN XXVI IASP WORLD CONFERENCE CELEBRATED IN NORTH CAROLINA
The Spanish delegation of science and technology parks has been the most numerous and one of the most active in the celebration of XXVI edition of the International Association of Technology Parks (IASP) World Conference that has been organized byThe Research Triangle Park in North Carolina.
More than 700 people of 65 different countries has gone to debate on “Ecosystems of the Knowledge of the future: Opportunities for the science and technology parks”. The Spanish representation has had a very important paper because, behind EE.UU., it is the delegation that more keynote has offered to the attending public of a total of 31 countries that have presented papers.
After the participation in the Conference of IASP, the representatives of Spanish parks moved to Washington where they carried out a cycle of meetings with high member representatives of the North American administration and of the Embassy of Spain in Washington.
The president of APTE, Felipe Romera and the president of IASP, Joan Bellavista had the opportunity to meet in the White House with the Director the International of Security and Energy of the National Council Rachel Walsh who explained the directives that the North American administration was going to follow in matter energetics. According to Walsh explained, the new policies are going to concentrate mainly in the promotion of clean technologies and reducing in a 80% the emissions in 2015.
In the embassy of Spain in Washington the Spanish delegation was received by José Pascual, Minister, Juan Serrano, CDTI advisor, Juan Martinez, Commercial Advisor, Rosa Gullén, Advisor of Education, Laurent Bochereau, Science Advisor of the EU in Washington and Alvaro Rodriguez, Advisor of the Embassy.
During this meeting the members of the Embassy animated to the representatives of the parks to foment the internationalization of their companies and to collaborate with them in the objective to position Spain and to improve the perception that of our country has in the matter of science and technology.
Finally, the Spanish delegation visited the Senate where they met with Jonathan Epstein, one of the most important members of the team of the Senator by New Mexico, Jeff Bingaman, which belongs to the Committee of Energy of the Senate. Besides working in power subjects Jonathan Epstein is a great defender of the science and technology parks and has visited many across the world. In this sense, he is working in the rough draft of a law on science parks. During the meeting, Epstein set out the law project in which it is working. He commented that for them the policy of parks is and must be a policy of clusters, and not to limit the concentration the parks, but to develop synergies between the different elements that harness a sector in a zone (technology parks, universities, centers, laboratories, etc.).
Also, he explained that they are developing 5 or 6 clusters on energy subjects following the model of the Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park , which is going to suppose an investment of 1,000 million dollars. As a result of these visits APTE is preparation a denominated plan of internationalization US-APTE.
